A historic island with the Bridge Tower and Intercession Cathedral amid the Serebryano-Vinogradny Pond.
The story of this place
In the 17th century Izmaylovo was a royal country estate surrounded by an artificial water system. Surviving elements include the Intercession Cathedral, gateways and Bridge Tower, once connected to a ceremonial bridge that no longer exists.
The tower was built by Kostroma masons led by Ivan Kuznechik. Its storeys served different purposes, including the cathedral's belfry. Coloured tiles featuring birds and foliage reveal the decorative vocabulary of 17th-century Moscow architecture.
