The story of this place

Kolomenskoye served as a country residence for Moscow's rulers. The Church of the Ascension, completed in 1532, is an exceptional early stone tent-roof church and the estate's UNESCO-listed monument.

Alexei Mikhailovich's original 17th-century wooden palace did not survive. The palace seen today is a modern reconstruction opened in 2010 elsewhere within the estate. Historic buildings, orchards and river slopes form extensive walking grounds.
