A wooden manor and park associated with Aksakov, Mamontov and the Abramtsevo artists’ circle.

The story of this place

Writer Sergei Aksakov bought the estate in 1843; Nikolai Gogol and Ivan Turgenev were among his visitors. Entrepreneur and art patron Savva Mamontov became its owner in 1870.

The Abramtsevo artists' circle formed around Mamontov. Painters and craftspeople contributed to the Church of the Saviour, workshops and imaginative wooden buildings. Established in 1918, the museum preserves the connection between art and everyday estate life.
