A garden, memorial writing lodge and estate where Chekhov wrote and treated patients.
The story of this place
Anton Chekhov lived at Melikhovo from 1892 to 1899. He wrote stories and plays here, including The Seagull, while practising medicine and helping establish village schools.
The museum was founded in 1940. Its key surviving memorial building is the small lodge dating from 1894; the main house was subsequently restored. Displays and gardens explore Chekhov's family life, writing and medical work.
