The story of this place

The monastery's history is linked to Sergius of Radonezh and the community he founded in the 14th century. Its surviving ensemble developed between the 15th and 18th centuries, tracing changes in Russian church architecture.

The early-15th-century Trinity Cathedral stands beside the larger 16th-century Assumption Cathedral. Later additions include the richly decorated Refectory Church and a tiered bell tower. UNESCO inscribed the monastery ensemble in 1993.
