A compact fortress with a continuous ring of walls and seven towers above the Osyotr River.

The story of this place

Zaraysk Kremlin was built in 1528–1531. The rectangular fortress retains its entire circuit of walls and seven towers, making its layout easy to understand even on a short walk.

Cathedrals and a museum-reserve stand within the enclosure. The collection links the town's history with a much older past: excavations at Zaraysk's Palaeolithic site have made archaeology an important part of the museum's story.
