Moscow State University’s historic botanical garden, with glasshouses and changing seasonal plant collections.

The story of this place

The garden was founded in 1706 on Peter I's orders to grow medicinal plants. Alongside supplying herbs, it helped train future doctors, connecting its botanical collection with medical practice in Moscow.

Moscow University acquired the garden in 1805. Collections gradually expanded beyond medicinal plants to outdoor and glasshouse specimens. The historic Mira Avenue grounds continue to bring together horticulture, research and urban walks.
