The story of this place

The name Krutitsy refers to the high bank of the Moskva River below the Yauza's mouth. The site served as a residence for senior clergy, with most surviving buildings dating from the 17th century.

The Assumption Cathedral, chambers and covered passages form a compact ensemble. Its best-known feature is the Teremok gatehouse, faced with colourful glazed tiles. The historic buildings have undergone restoration, and the site remains an active religious complex.
