The gallery’s historic Zamoskvorechye home, with Russian art from icons to the early 20th century.
The story of this place
The collection began with Pavel Tretyakov's purchases in 1856. His family's house on Lavrushinsky Lane was gradually enlarged to accommodate the growing collection and welcome visitors.
The distinctive façade designed by Viktor Vasnetsov united the building's different sections in the early 20th century. Today this historic gallery presents medieval Russian painting and art from the 18th to early 20th centuries; it is separate from the museum's other venues.
